Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Scope

Insight publishes ultra-brief meta-analyses, methodological innovations, and evidence updates. All submissions must be complete and independently interpretable within 400 words.

Article Types

Meta-analyses (400 words)

  • Background/rationale
  • Search strategy and databases
  • Inclusion/exclusion criteria
  • Number of studies and participants
  • Pooled effect estimates with 95% CI
  • Heterogeneity assessment (I², τ²)
  • Clinical interpretation and implications

Methods papers (400 words)

  • Problem or limitation being addressed
  • Novel method or approach
  • Statistical/computational details
  • Validation or proof-of-concept
  • Advantages and limitations
  • Practical implementation guidance

Meta-analysis updates (400 words)

  • Reference to original meta-analysis
  • New studies/data included
  • Updated pooled estimates
  • Change in conclusions or implications

Formatting Requirements

  • Word limit: Exactly 400 words or fewer (excluding title, author list, and affiliations)
  • Title: Maximum 20 words
  • Structure: Use subheadings (Background, Methods, Results, Conclusions)
  • Numbers: Report with appropriate precision (e.g., HR 0.87, 95% CI 0.79-0.95, I²=45%)
  • Supplementary files: Maximum 2 files (forest plots, tables, or detailed analyses)

Statistical Reporting

  • Always report effect sizes with 95% confidence intervals
  • State heterogeneity measures (I², τ², prediction intervals if applicable)
  • Specify meta-analysis model used (random-effects, fixed-effect)
  • Report assessment of publication bias if conducted
  • Follow PRISMA 2020 standards adapted for brief format

Submission Process

  • Focus on methodological rigor and clarity
  • Revisions limited to one round
